Frenchie's have made it to the top of AKC's Popularity List of Dog Breeds.
Why?
Those of us who have them know exactly why!
Let's explore some excellent points for these amazing little dogs.
1) The way they are built.
Frenchie's are small, but not small enough that you have to worry about stepping on them, like a delicate Yorkie. They also are the perfect size for apartment living, farm living and do well as companion travel animals.
2) They are downright adorable.
We all grew up hugging our favorite teddy bears, as children many wished the bears could be real life buddies. Having a Frenchie is like having a real life, Teddy. A round belly, short cubby little body and those perfect little bear ears. They also have a irresistible smile
3) They love People!
Frenchie's are highly intelligent and they bond quick with their families.
They make excellent family dogs as they will love you, your husband and your toddler with the same unwavering devotion.
4) They don't have big grooming requirements.
Frenchie's have tight short coats, many have a gene for low shedding. Trips to the groomer can be used for a spa day treat for these guys, as they don't have an undercoat, they don't need daily brushing and if not being active outside, two baths a month with some grooming wipes in between does fine for them.
5) They aren't Loud.
Alright, Frenchie's do snore, they chortle, they sound like little piggies, but they are not huge barkers. This is an additional plus for city living, as they won't annoy your neighbors. They will however, alert you of new people in their space.
6) They love to cuddle.
Frenchie's love to snuggle. They were literally Lap Warmers in England for the English Lacemaker's. When those Lacemakers relocated to France, they brought their little lap warming dogs with them and it's in France that the popularity rose, and they became known as the Frances Bulldogue.
7) They are Loyal
French Bulldogs love their people. Many of them do protect their families, their human siblings, their properties and they can guard. I have some that I truly believe if someone broke in, they would do anything to protect me, even with their small size.
8) They are Playful
In between napping and eating, Frenchie's love playing. They love to carry small toys around. They get the zoomies with friends; they enjoy chew treats and overall are extremely hilarious little dogs. There is a reason the AKC Describes them as Clowns in the cloak of a philosopher. They are Funny and thoughtful little dogs.
9) They aren't destructive
Frenchie's typically aren't big chewers. I have had two in my lifetime that chewed a baseboard, and I will say that it was probably my fault as I let them go through teething without enough stimulation in that stage. I have never had one chew my shoes or clothes, there are exceptions to the rule and never say never, but typically they are pretty well behaved.
10) Frenchie's are Trainable
The biggest flaw is some, especially females can be stubborn to potty train. It really relies on the owners keeping to a strict schedule and providing safe spaces for them to have accidents. Outside of that, going back to point 3 that they love food and aren't picky, Frenchie's can be trained to do tricks, excel in obedience and agility. I even have a Shepherd friend that has trained them to do protection work, sniff out work, and crazy enough some bite work. These dogs are always eager to please and willing to learn.
If we expand our minds as dog owners, these little dogs can conquer all!
